Appeal for Peace
Of the Cambodian civil society groups on the armed clash between the Cambodian and Thai troops near Preah
16 October 2008
We, members of Cambodian civil society groups, peace activists express our sadness about the break out of the armed clashes between the Cambodian and Thai soldiers on 15 October 2008 near Preah Vihear Temple.
We would like to express our deepest condolences to the soldiers who died/wounded and their families.
We applaud the latest pledge and decision of both governments to come back to resort peaceful means- negotiation table.
We appeal to both governments to take concrete steps to end the armed conflicts; and ask for a third party to help resolving the conflict.
We call for the media of both countries to take an active role in contributing to peaceful solutions.
